What is Eastfront?

Eastfront details the conflict between Germany and the Soviet Union during WWII. Players have to contend with production, supply, command control and weather to try and break the other side’s lines. Individual, linkable 6-month scenarios cover the war from June 1941 through May 1945.

What is Westfront?

Westfront details the conflict between Germany and the Western allies during WWII. Players have to contend with production, supply, command control and weather to try and break the other sides’ lines. Individual, linkable 6-month scenarios cover the war from June 1943 through May 1945.

What is Eurofront?

Eurofront adds the Northern Front, Middle East and Turkey not found in the prior version. It details the conflict between Germany and the Allies during WWII. Players have to contend with production, supply, command control and weather to try and break the other sides’ lines. Several scenarios cover every major point of the war.

The “Columbia Block System

The EastFront series is a Columbia Block System game. The game information for each piece is facing the player, but not the opponent! This allows a “fog-of-war” aspect of play that allows an extra layer of subtlety to gameplay. It allows for feints, bluffs, and outright surprises!

Also, it has a step reduction system built into place as well! As units take damage, they simply are rotated to show their new strength. It is an innovative design that has been a fan favorite of gamers in the know for years!

What others say about The EastFront series?

Eastfront is a wonderful game, probably the best block game I ever played. It captures the size and scope of the Eastern Front just right! It doesn’t try to minimize the game with 20 pieces and a small map. At the same time, you don’t get some OCS monster with 10 maps and 3,000 counters.

Excellent block wargame. One of the best Eastern Front Grand Strategy WWII games.
Simple and elegant system with the right “chrome” and details level and well balanced between the realism and playability.
The rules are well-written.
You have a lot of meaningful choices (strategical, “tactical”, need to plan your move and operations and managed your logistics) creating very good replayability.

I should probably dump all my other East Front/ETO games and just play this (trio) instead.

Excellent operational East Front game.

The machanics succeed in making the players think in ways that are quite realistic for the chosen scale. In that sense, the game is quite “realistic” from a military point of view. You want to concentrate your forces secretly (massing HQs and/or spending lots of HQs in a particular turn) and attack at a point that allows you to exploit as much as possible (cutting enemy units off).

12 games under my belt. Awesome, excellent, love it. Increasing my rating to 10 and shifting this game to my best 3 games (bundle with westfront) I’ve ever played.

Fantastic game! I’d heard only good things about EastFront, and it delivered on 100% of my expectations.

My first play of EastFront marks several firsts for me, as it’s my first operational-level wargame, first game with ZOCs and meaningful supply line mechanics, first Eastern Front wargame not played solo, and the first game where I’ve used plexi to turn the maps into a play surface.

The maps are glorious, both pretty and functional. I love the large hexes. The unit stickers are equally clear and legible, and make gameplay a breeze.

Grand, engaging and puzzle-like system which is intuitive & easy to learn. Gameplay allows for crafty schemes, disastrous envelopments and rich narratives which satisfy the armchair general. Victory conditions seem tough for the Germans.

I own the earlier version and have now played the Barbarossa scenario. WOW! I think this is a great game.

For such a big game with a thick rule book, this is amazingly accessible. The system is very clean, the mechanics make sense, you have a lot of meaningful choices and most importantly, it’s fun. It’s challenging, too, but in a good way, not a Eurogame spreadsheet way.

It’s quite a remarkable accomplishment for a game to be this sprawling and also so playable. This could become one of my favorite games if I could find room and an opponent to play it.
