Victory Map 6 Strategy Notes
Strategy notes assume the "A" is placed in the lower left corner.
The Tenere and Djarit deserts, separated by the Kabir river make this a very inhospitable
map. Add the mountains and limited roads and players soon learn that Desert operations
can get very tricky.
Attack
Mersa Brega is the best base to attack from the North. From there an advance to
Derna and El Daba is supplied. Players should take care not to send their tanks
speeding across the desert without regard to supply lines.
The fact that a City only functions as a supply source when connected to another
City is paramount on this map.
An attack from the South is challenging because Kasar and Ben Mufta are not
linked to the other settlements on this map. These cities are good targets because
they cannoteasily be reinforced. The town of Ben Musa poses an interesting dilemma
as well. From the South it easily links to the road network of an invader, making
it an obvious base of operations for an attack. On the other hand, this makes
it vulnerable to a counterattack and encirclement.
Defense
Map six has only three towns and six cities. Controlling the limited number of
available air bases is critical. Heavy and medium bombers in the rear supported
by fighters near the front are practical. The lack of airbases can work in a defender's
favor because the attackers air capabilities are also limited. Pinning and
fighter traps are excellent defensive measures. The addition of airfields from the Logistics Set can help in both attack and defense.
