Victory Map 10 Strategy Notes
Strategy notes assume the "A" is placed in the lower left corner.
This map consists of a land area facing the wide open Middle Sea. A short canal separates it into two areas, each with resource and production cities.
Attack
An attack from the North will likely be a relatively straightforward land invasion. Burkhat will be somewhat easier to isolate then Mitlah, given the long highway that connects it to the rest of the map. This is especially the case if a naval blockade can be achieved. Conversely, mounting an attack from the South will definitely be a good test of a player’s ability. Aircraft carriers will be necessary to provide sufficient air cover. An attacker should remember to spread his forces out to both limit the opportunities for attack, and to provide as much fog of war to the enemy as possible. In addition, blockading or destroying the Birkanal will limit enemy response as well.
Defense
Defending on this map from the North requires a completely difference strategy than from the South. From the North, a conventional land-based defense should focus on preventing your cities from becoming isolated. If playing a resource scenario, the town of Jizah becomes especially important as well. From the South, it will be crucial to keep the attacker off your shores, as well as preventing one or more cities to become blocked from the others. It is to the defender’s advantage to have the bulk of the fighting occur in the Middle Sea, especially if it is just in range of land-based aircraft which can respond.
